It Don't Mean a Thing
So PinkSonia came down this weekend for a lark. We haunted some bookstores that I didn't know existed, but now I'm glad I do. The first was Octavia Books on, you guessed it, Octavia Street. It's actually within walking distance of my house, and it's got a really good selection. second, we stopped at McKeown's on Tchoupitoulas, which is possibly my new favorite due to the large amount of secondhand and antique books that litter its shelves. If you're in town, it's certainly worth a stop.
After booking for a bit, we went and saw Pan's Labyrinth which was a good movie, but brutal in its violence and definitely left me a bit numb. It was interesting to see how another culture (in this case, Spanish) protray fantasy and fantastic creatures. I also liked the way they use color in a number of the scenes, especially the toad scene and the closing sequence.
Saturday night we went swing dancing, well, actually it was jive Allison tells me. Whatever it was, it was a lot of fun. Fast-paced and way over my head in terms of my ability, but fun.
Anyway, I've got things to do, so until next time stay out of trouble. Or at least don't get caught.
